Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 with S-Pen 2019

Today is the expiry date for my device warranty.

It has been a year since I bought this device. I feel like I have underuse this device. The reason I bought this device is due to my previous phone has damage and it has store warranty which allow me to claim store cash voucher. I use it to purchase this as there is no other phone that I want at that time.

Android 10

Android 10 which is a new naming from Android Q is said to have separate the OS update with Security Patch. The new OS will allow user to update the security patch direct from Play Store instead waiting for the mercy of the OEM to provide.

Android was notorious in term of update. Many devices never get any or only a few update from the manufacturers. These have cause a security breach concern for the most of the android devices.

Many manufacturers don't want to spend extra effort to maintain the software. Due to the fragmentation of devices, it is not easy for Google to provide update from their side in term of hardware firmware. This is the same situation as Microsoft Windows which always cause chaos for each update that crash the hardware firmware stability and compability.

Android Q

The current way to get to try the latest Android Q is using the simulator. Install Android Studio and use the AVD to execute the virtual phone. The major issue with this method is the simulator is very slow. Only suitable if you don't have the spare money to indulge yourself. A beggar can not be choosy.

Android Update

There are a few way to ensure that customers can get the latest Android update. One is purchase hot selling flagship level phone. Some company's flagship has bad sales that they give up directly to care about the phone anymore.

Second is purchase phone that is under Google program. The update is carried out by Google and not the OEM. This is called Android One but these phone normally have shitty spec compare to the pricing.

Third is purchase phone by Google but the problem is the availability is very low. Not practical.

The last is the most easy one, buy a new phone. Phone maker only promise to provide maximun 2 years software support. Some d.o.a.

Flash Moto G Custom ROM

I need to record the steps to flash the rom.

First adb device using CMD after connect Moto G to computer
Then adb reboot bootloader to restart the phone to Recovery Mode
Select WIPE dalvik, cache, data, system
Conform WIPE
Then adb push customerromfilename.zip /sdcard
After done, select Install and browse the zip file.
Confirm the installation.
If hit error, reboot the device and wipe the data again.
Better not do any system Update after complete because it will cause infinity reboot.

Samsung Tab 10.1 2019 Wifi

Samsung launch this device many months ago, I look at the spec and felt not bad. But it still have some design flaw that keep me from considering the device. Its suppose to be a media consumption device but the stereo speaker is located at the same side which felt a bit monologue. This is a bit waste. The screen is not Amoled, which is understandable as to keep the cost down.

Android Tablet

Recently I notice that Samsung has a brand new tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 LTE which seem like a not bad devices with its pricing at below 600. Consider it as a large version of my Samsung J7 Prime. It is stated that it is using TFT screen and not IPS and the resolution is 1280x800.

I went to Samsung Outlet to see the actual device and what surprise me is that the screen seem very wash out. The color is a bit dull and pixelated. It is a bit unbelievable at that time that make me turn off to purchase the device. Beside there is no promotion for the device. I get nothing except the device along.

The device is a bit heavy and thicker than I expected.

8" seem still consider as small to my usage. I felt that with the pixelated screen, it will make my situation much worst than when I own the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 which is IPS screen and the screen doesn't felt pixelated. Maybe that's how Samsung able to cut the cost.

Nexus 5X

Google has just announced the latest Nexus line of phone. One of the devices that caught my eye is the Nexus 5X by LG.
It is essentially the upgrade version of the Nexus 5 also made by LG.
Nexus 6 by Motorola is consider too large for normal usage.
It is a nice substitute for those who like LG G4.

LG G3

LG G3 is the latest flagship android phone that packed with almost identical with others flagship phone except one thing that I particular surprise of.

The laser sensor for camera.

Well, when you out of ideas, just pack it with all the things that you have.
To be honest, I already cannot recognize what is what anymore with these almost the same design.

Zenfone 4 vs Nokia X

Wonder how well Nokia X is now making? With Asus Zenfone 4 that have away better spec and price, can it still grad a piece of market? Let's face it, Nokia X selling RM 400++ with Android 4.1, 512MB ram and 4GB storage that cannot take selfie compare with Zenfone 4 selling RM299 with Android 4.3, 1GB ram and 8GB storage that can take selfie, whose your daddy now.

Unless you are a fan-boy which never the subject to discuss, you should know what to pick.

Well finally it is real

It is the phone that everyone has been waiting for since 2010 and now it finally here.
Now, nobody seem to be excited with what Nokia has offer in their Nokia X series.
Android 4.1.2 without any Google apps and Android UI.
With only one back button, 512Mb and 4Gb ROM.

Good Luck Nokia, you burn your platform again this time.

All Superphone last until last summer

What is the shelf life for a flagship smartphone? Once is a year but as time changes, now left only 4 months with no guarantee of next update or support from the vendor.

Don't believe?

Check out the latest victim, the once mighty L9 hundred.

But it is not alone, if you notice, not all phone in market will get their update from their vendor. Even they get it after a long long long time of waiting, it already outdated or became a near outdated updated.

Check out the update from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean.

p/s: Actually that was the title from a short story that was made into a major motion picture, A.I. All Super toy last until last summer.
